What is Zineryt?

Zineryt, available only through a prescription, is a topical medication designed for direct application to the skin to address symptoms of acne. Formulated with erythromycin, an antibiotic targeting bacteria growth on the skin, and zinc acetate with anti-inflammatory properties, Zineryt effectively treats acne pimples and reduces inflammation when applied to affected areas. Used externally, Zineryt comes in the form of a solution or lotion. This combination product targets both bacterial aspects and inflammation associated with acne. It is commonly included in acne treatment plans for pregnant women.

What is Zineryt used to treat?

Zineryt is a topical prescription-only medication designed to treat acne. It combines erythromycin, an antibiotic that inhibits bacterial growth, including the bacteria responsible for acne, with zinc acetate, which possesses anti-inflammatory properties. This dual-action approach targets both the bacterial infection and inflammation, working to alleviate redness and promote clearer skin.

The effectiveness of Zineryt varies among individuals based on factors such as acne severity, skin type, and adherence to the treatment schedule. Clinical studies have demonstrated its ability to reduce acne lesions and improve overall symptoms. It has also been shown to decrease sebum production, a factor associated with acne development.

Who can and cannot use Zineryt?

Zineryt is effective for many individuals dealing with acne; however, certain considerations should be kept in mind.

Do not use Zineryt if:

  • you have allergies to erythromycin, zinc acetate, di-isopropyl sebacate, or ethanol

  • you are allergic to antibiotics of the macrolide group

If you are uncertain about having allergies to these substances, consult your doctor or pharmacist for guidance.

Avoid contact with your eyes, inside of your nose, and mouth. If Zineryt comes into contact with these areas, promptly rinse with cold or lukewarm water for several minutes.

Regarding pregnancy, breastfeeding, and fertility, Zineryt is generally safe for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. However, refrain from applying Zineryt to your chest if you are breastfeeding.
