What is Wegovy?

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has now granted approval for semaglutide as a preventative treatment to reduce the risk of heart attacks, strokes, and cardiovascular death in overweight and obese adults.
In a 2024 trial carried out by SELECT, semaglutide was found to reduce the risk of a repeat cardiac event by 20% in patients with a BMI of 27 or higher who had experienced a cardiac event previously.

Wegovy isn't suitable for:

Those at risk of pancreatitis
People with diabetes should talk to their NHS GP about weight loss medicines, because Wegovy could interact with other medicines prescribed for this condition.
